You are asked to state that you're an adult in the submission form, and we trust that you are truthful. Prompting Phase

We'll start the festivities with a prompting phase — that means readers and creators alike get to submit a prompt of their choosing, for both fic and art. A prompt can be anything: a full fic idea or a single sentence, a line of dialogue, a song, a vibe, simply any theme or idea you'd like to see created for the fest. The only requirement for all prompts is that they somehow incorporate the Theme of Summer (and Dead Dove!).While we cannot guarantee that the prompt you submit will be picked by a creator for the fest, we're excited to create a well of inspiration for our participants and, after the event is over, leave it available for everyone to pick from if you so please.Prompts are not requests, they are not commissions, they are not gift wishlists. They are simply inspiration for the Participants to draw from however they please. This phase is open to everyone, even if you don't intend to take part as a participant. And remember, the Doves might have thawed, but they're still dead 🕊️🪦The prompts will be made public for all of you to peruse. So check to see if your idea has already been submitted! The Dovecember Team will be adding Tags according to the prompts submitted, these are purely for ease of navigating and filtering the Prompt Gallery. Should you not agree with a tag applied to your prompt, please contact us via email. We will give everyone a few days to think over the prompts, leading us to the sign-ups!And don't worry should your prompt not get picked, all prompts will remain available in the Prompt Gallery, even after the Event has concluded.

Prompting Guide:

Try to make your prompts succinct and clear.Example 1:
❌ "Gore but idk do what you want"
🟢 "Serial Killer AU where Ghost goes after hot babes during Summer Break until he stumbles across Soap, shenanigans ensue."
Example 2:
❌ "any song from this artist"
🟢 "This specific song from this artist, with emphasis on these lines / this part!"
Example 3:
❌ "Anything ice cream!"
🟢 "Price invites his team out for some ice cream and things get real sticky, real fast."

—————

If we receive (near-) identical prompts, we will only include the one first submitted.Example 1:
Two different people submitted the same song as a prompt. If one of the prompters was anonymous, the non-anonymous prompt will go on the list.
If both were anonymous or public, the first one submitted will go on the list.Example 2:
Prompter 1: [song1]
Prompter 2: [song1]. "Soap and Ghost see each other at the same place they'd first met last summer."
Both are based on the same song, so Prompt 2 will be included on the list as it contains more details.Example 3:
Prompter 1: [song1]. "Soap and Ghost see each other at the same place they'd first met last summer."
Prompter 2: [song1]. "Ghost is stalking Soap in the forest during his annual getaway with a group of friends."
Both prompts will be included as they have different story ideas.

Sign-ups

There will be separate sign-ups for Creators and Betas, so make sure to fill out the right form!Creators:
Select a maximum of 5 Prompts from the list and rank them from top choice (1) to last choice (5).
If you make any changes to the prompt, it should still be recognisable as the original idea. You can always consider to self-prompt as well, should none of the prompts on the list fit your taste. You will be asked to give us a brief summary / idea of what you are planning to create. To avoid posting too-similar works, each prompt can only be claimed once for a fic and once for art — that way, we can make sure that no two fics or drawings will be inspired by the same prompt. That does mean that prompts are first come first serve! The other prompts serve as possible alternatives, should you not get your first choice. And remember, you don't have to include ALL the suggestions from a prompt — it's just a source of inspiration. Most important is that you have fun!We will close the form after 30 Participants have signed up or when the deadline for claiming has passed.Betas:
We wanted to call on the community to help our writers out with beta-reading! Since every fic must be beta-read, we’re accepting beta volunteers for the participants who don’t have / can’t find betas.
By signing up as a beta, you may be called upon to jump in and help out a participant with their work. You'll beta-read works according to the squicks / triggers you’ve indicated in the sign-up form, but please keep in mind that this is beta help — you might receive a work to proofread that wouldn’t be your first choice to read. Please be flexible and only put your absolute deal breakers for beta-ing into the form.We will try to distribute the fics depending on the load, so no one beta has to take on the full bulk of the work. Signing up as a beta does not guarantee that you will receive a work to read through, since we assume that most writers will have their works beta’d privately.

Submissions

Submissions must be complete, original, standalone works. Please do not submit drafts, unfinished pieces, sequels, prequels or remixes of existing works. If you are planning to continue the work with either of these, we ask you to not reference this in your creation (including in your creator notes) until after the Fest ends. When your submission is complete, you will post it to the Dovecember AO3 collection. Remember to tag the Dovecember account as a co-author!Please tag appropriately.Considering the theme of this Fest, it is vital for all the works to be thoroughly tagged. Feel free to provide any additional details in your author's notes. The mods will review the tagging on the fic and get back to you if we feel something should be added. You are welcome to shout-out the prompter as a little treat, but this is not necessary. The Fest works are not Gifts! Please refrain from using custom tags (rambles, full sentences, etc.) as they might give away your identity before the reveals. If you require an extension, please contact the mods and we will try to accommodate you to the best of our ability. If, at any point, you are not sure about the content of your submission, please contact the mods. Keep in mind the theme of this Fest.Full submission details will be given after the second check-in.

Creations

You must submit an original, not-seen-before creation, without WIPs and / or teasers previously posted on any public platform. Do not talk publicly about your creation: this includes posting snippets, WIPs, etc.*If you are creating art, your work should be at least one complete artwork in your style. You are welcome and encouraged to create something bigger, or a work that includes more than one illustration — the sky’s the limit! The minimum word count for fics is 1000 words. There is no maximum word count — you can write an entire novel if you wish! Each work must be beta read, spell checked and polished to your best abilities before submitting. If you don’t have a beta reader and cannot find one, please contact the mods so we can try and connect you with a beta volunteer.**

*You are allowed to have friends, cheerleaders, betas etc., just keep it to your DMs!**The mods reserve the right to send a submission back to the writer if we find significant editing issues.

Posting

The mods will review the work and get back to you — either with an official confirmation that the work is accepted or with some small suggestions. We might ask for the work to be spellchecked or ask you to add certain tags / warnings. We will also suggest additional tags you can choose to add or skip for a better idea about the work’s content and better visibility in the AO3 search. The mod account will remain a co-author only until the reveals — after that, we will remove ourselves as a co-author! We need the access to add an official endnote, set up a proper posting date, take the work off anon if needed, and make any last-minute typo corrections if we find any.Once your work has been published by the collection, you are free to make your own social media posts!Posting will start on August 1st.*

*This can be subject to change in case of scheduling conflicts.

FAQ

What's a Fest?:
A fest is a Challenge or Creative Event that centres around showcasing fanworks. Participants and members of the community are invited to provide prompts and ideas within the fests's theme. This is the basis of the creations of the event, as opposed to a gift exchange.
The Participants can then choose a prompt from the list compiled by the fest moderators. A fest may be fandom, pairing or character-specific; it may have a particular theme, such as a holiday, a kink or a trope; it may be held to celebrate a particular event. What's Dead Dove?:
Dead Dove: Do Not Eat is a warning or tag that is used and interpreted in multiple different ways in different areas of fandom.
The tag was initially proposed as a way to indicate that a fanwork depicts "tropes that might be viewed as problematic" without necessarily any subversion or condemnation of those tropes. One common usage is to simply indicate that "this fic is clearly labelled and fully warned for, so if you open it, you know what you are getting." More recently, it has also become common to treat "Dead Dove: Do Not Eat" as a content warning in and of itself, indicating that a fanwork contains particularly violent or dark tropes or concepts. What's a Squick?:
Squick is a term commonly used to describe anything that is a deep-seated, visceral turn-off. It can also be seen as the opposite of a Kink.
A Squick is not the same as a Trigger as they do not bring about any sort of PTSD, dissociation, or spiral of depression, anxiety, etc. They are simply things you don't enjoy viewing / reading.Do Prompters have to be public?:
No, prompters can choose to remain fully anonymous, so prompt away!
Can I submit more than one prompt?:
You can submit as many prompts as you want, although we cannot guarantee that they'll be picked. We only ask everyone to prompt within reason and not spam the form, e.g. with just song titles / links or tropes without anything added.
Does it have to be Dead Dove?:
This is a Dead Dove Fest, so we require that at least some aspect of your work includes dead dove / dark / taboo themes. That doesn't mean you can't have some fluff on the side to lighten things up, though!
What Pairings can I create for?:
You can create for any pairing inside the CoD universe, be that the original Modern Warfare, the 2019 reboot, Ghosts, whatever tickles your fancy!
Do people working on the same prompt have to work together?:
No, quite the opposite! Since this is not a Collab Fest, collaborations will not be allowed. The possibility for each prompt to be claimed once for art and once for fic is to ensure no two works in the same medium will be based off the same prompt.
Am I committed to the prompts I choose?:
Yes. You won't be able to make any more major changes once you've submitted your Sign-up Form and have received your Prompt. Some wiggle room within the prompt will remain, though you can’t change your prompt anymore.

Examples of Prompt tweaking:

  • Changing the pairing: making it Poly141 instead of Ghoap

  • Changing dynamics: switching up who tops / bottoms, etc.

  • Adding another trope to the prompt (Omegaverse, AUs, etc.)

Can I claim two Prompts?:
Yes. Once you've finished and submitted the first prompt you’ve claimed to the Collection, you can claim a second prompt. Remember: only when your first creation is fully finished, submitted, and accepted.

What are some Examples for the Summer Theme?:

  • Hot Temperatures / Heat Waves

  • Heat Stroke / Sunburns

  • Ice cubes / Temperature Play

  • Beach / Ocean Mission

  • Dehydration / Delirium
